I think the main issue which needs to be addressed is native support for the SQLite APIs in the ServiceLocator. This must also take into account both synchronous and asynchronous execution. 

In addition, Cairngorm needs to provide support for File I/O as well.

It has been my experience that these issues are the biggest hurdle developers will encounter when building AIR applications on Cairngorm.
