What is after the Cairngorm Tutorials

This is the time for some reader response. We have two parts left in the Cairngorm Tutorial Series. I am trying to plan ahead and determine what topic to tackle next (with Flex,AIR,Flash or CF). The Cairngorm series came out of several people specifically asking me to do it. What would you guys like to see next?

    Complex Flex Charting?
    Filtering XML lists?
    Fun with ItemRenderers?

I should have your Cairngorm series complete by the end of the weekend. Regardless which you chose to do next, thank you for taking the time to put these together.

  2. Sean Moore says:

    Unit Testing would be great.

    ASDoc maybe.

Using either one of those in conjunction with Cairngorm would be awesome.

Something with Microformats and AIR would be cool.?

Any Flex development best practices you could offer would be greatly valued as well.

Thanks again for the great tutorials.

  3. Frédéric Michel says:

    Great tutorials ! Thanks.

Flex with a J2EE application server like Jonas?

  4. Tony Smith says:

Unit test and Debug Cairngorm application.

  5. Andrew Jones says:

I would love to see some tutorials on using CF as the backend for a flex app using cairngorm – specifically if you use the “wizards” in Flex Builder to create your CFC’s so that your VO’s match, or what your method is.

I would also enjoy seeing some informaiton on unit testing and building tests/etc.

  6. William from Lagos says:

ColdFusion powered flex app built using cairngorm. Or an AIR app built using Cairngomn

    Great tutorials Dave!

  7. Felipe Fernandez says:

    Hi,

Maybe conecting Flex with any java application server using LiveCycle Data Services could be most interesting.

    Great tutorials, by the way.
    Thanks and best regards.

  8. Jim Bachalo says:

How about a similar set of tutorials but using PureMVC and Flash CS3??

  9. Toby Nunn says:

Unit test framework – JUnit equivalent would be great
I also concur on the LiveCycle Data Services -> Flex to Java App server

    Excellent information! Thanks.

  10. Zdenek M says:

I would prefer the explanation, how to use the LCDS and Flex with relational SQL database – reading data from more than one table, using IDs generated by database etc.

  11. Mango says:

please don’t go into coldfusion. nobody who takes themselves seriously as a web developer even bothers with coldfusion. going into how flex integrates with j2ee, asp.net, django or ruby on rails. nobody uses coldfusion. please don’t do coldfusion.

    Hi David,

    very good job and explanation!!!

is it possible to extends this model to achieve module to module communication?

in particular i would have a structure within a main app that permits to achieve flex modules communication…

    thanks in advance,
    Regards Lorenzo

  13. David Tucker says:

@Lorenzo – This is something that would be a good idea to cover. I will see if I can work it into my schedule. To give you the short answer, the Universal Mind Cairngorm Extensions provide an easy way to implement Cairngorm with modules (and they also provide many other benefits). I will try to work in a tutorial on them soon.

  14. Lorenzo says:

    Hi David,

    thanks for the reply…

  15. Trent says:

Your Cairngorm tutorials were most excellent. If you could do the same with the Universal Mind Cairngorm Extensions it would be much appreciated. Particularly with modules.

  16. David Tucker says:

@Trent – That is a great idea. If I can get some time soon – I will work on that tutorial.

  17. iongion says:

Definitely, a way of using Cairngorm for modular applications.

And because you are way above most of us in professionalism, tackling unit testing together with Cairngorm will be extremely nice.

Great job, like many other people i have problems with Cairngorm and modules, i am lost. I have data that is in the singleton (ModelLocator) and i want to share this between all modules, but every time that i open a module, the ModelLocator class returns me a new instance an the data disappear.

I am sorry but i am really lost, thanks for all.
